Study structure and contents

The study program in Geography at KIT prepares students for the teaching profession at Gymnasium level. On the one hand, it is about the acquisition of human and physical-geographical knowledge, on the other hand it is about didactic and pedagogical skills. Learning on site and working in the field sharpen the integrative and interdisciplinary view.

The geography sub-degree can be combined with the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, German, Computer Science, Mathematics, Natural Science and Technology (NwT), Philosophy/Ethics, Physics and Sports. A combination with art (Academy of Arts) and music (Academy of Music) is also possible.

Requirements

The Bachelor's program in Geography is subject to admission restrictions. The selection procedure is mainly based on the academic performance of the applicants. On the basis of these achievements and so-called other achievements, a ranking according to points is established. The following achievements are included in the calculation:

  1. Total score in the Abitur, maximum 15 points

  2. Average points of the upper school courses in the subjects German, Mathematics, the best continuing foreign language, as well as the best graded science, maximum 15 points

  3. other services such as completed vocational training in a relevant training occupation, practical activities and special training as well as extracurricular activities and qualifications, up to a maximum of 15 points
